Work Visa…uuuugggghhhh

Getting a work visa has officially become the bane of my existence and that is only slightly exaggerating….seriously.

I gather a bunch of paperwork and send it off to an agency only to have it sit there and have nothing done with it (I’m talking to you FBI, its not like you are busy finding the serial killers of the world or anything, process my dang finger prints!)

I can’t move forward to the next step in the process until the step before it is completed….it is a giant game of hurry up and wait…ugh!  It is killing me.

If any one has a magical formula to teach yourself patience I would greatly appreciate you passing it along to me.

Selling

Part of our decision to move to the Middle East was that we have very little holding us back.

  • No kids
  • No dog
  • No plants….seriously, we don’t have any, I killed them all already

It seemed like such an easy and carefree time in our lives to make a decision like this, we just had one large item we needed to take care of before we really had zero responsibility, our house.

We needed a plan, it had to be rented or sold before August.  So we did what anyone would do in our situation when they found out they were moving to the other side of the world; we avoided it.  We did nothing to get ready for this in February, March or April and all of a sudden it was May 1st and we had a mini panic attack that we needed to make some decisions with our house.

So we met with a rental agency and a couple different realtors and decided selling was the best way to go for us.

So we took a long hard look at our house and decided that we had to some work to do. So we called family and friends and got to work.

That is how our house went from looking like this….

That Nudge

Mitch and I have been talking about wanting to move overseas for at least the last 6 years. Without even trying to, our friend Mike gave us that nudge we needed to stop talking and start doing. Mike and I taught together for a couple of years and one afternoon while we were outside setting up a geocaching course for kiddos he looked at me and said “I am moving to the Middle East.” Needless to say I was instantly jealous that he was taking the jump into something that I was only dreaming about at that point.   1457696_10202546698533695_760612828_n

How can you not be jealous of a man who sits with amazing posture with a wicked ‘stache at the Taj Mahal.

I have been watching Mike and his family live this amazing international life style and with every Facebook post, e-mail, and conversation I had with him I was getting that nudge little by little to make that leap and go for it. Once we finally made that jump and made the decision to move to the Middle East Mike has been super supportive. This is the e-mail I received from him this week:

Maybe you’ve read a bunch of these already or maybe you’re like me and did absolutely no research at ALL hahaha. It’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done.

Might As Well

Two years ago Mitch and I started seriously talking about looking for jobs overseas.  We loved the idea of moving our lives overseas, exploring a new culture, and having a new airport to be able to travel from.  We realized that it would take a major alignment of the stars to make this dream a reality. Fast forward 2 years and those stars aligned. Mitch and I both received job offers working at an American school in the Middle East.  As we weighed the pros and cons of making a move to the other side of the world, Mitch turned and looked at me and said; “might as well.”  We made the decision to move to Kuwait City, Kuwait.

A blog?

Buckskin Gulch, Utah We started a blog, yup I said “we.”  I wanted a blog and Mitch is hands down a better writer than I am so I persistently asked until he reluctantly agreed, politely asked him one time and he jumped on board.  Mitch and I are making a major life change and I wanted to way to document our set backs, our successes, and our adventures along the way.  So we will be writing about our life from our own individual perspectives.   My posts will be filled with misspelled words, rambling sentences, and an excessive use of ellipsis (hmm…maybe the plural is ellipsi) Mitch’s writing however will be well thought out, carefully crafted and in a logical and orderly manner.  You can go ahead and take that information and imply a whole bunch of things about our marriage and you would probably right.   So this is it, an official first post and from what I have been told, one of the hardest to write.
